Here are, primarily, organizations whose services can be used by FSS participants. Although certain of their resources may appear elsewhere on this FSS site, the following listing allows connecting with the organization more generally. In addition, some web sites are listed because the sites themselves give useful information. [The links are underlined.]
- Courses in English for speakers of other languages, adult basic education, and classes for the GED are no longer offered by the Montgomery County Public Schools. Here are new locations for the programs:
- The Montgomery County Recreation Department offers courses in art, music, culinary arts, health, and personal growth. To access information regarding its program, follow this link to the
Rec Department.
- Montgomery College is offering courses in business, finance, communication arts, computers, languages, and parent education. For information on these subjects, follow this link to the continuing education program.
- Montgomery College is also offering courses in SAT Preparation, as shown on
this site.
- And the College is also teaching courses on Adult Basic Education (ABE), English, and General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparation as described at the site on language skills.
- The Beehive gives general education on money management, health, schools, and other topics.
- Centro Familia in Silver Spring offers programs in Spanish and bilingual programs: Early childhood education, child care licensing, mentoring, LEONA (child care providers' networking group). Call 301-754-1801.

CLARC (Computer Learning and Resource Center) provides computer training and employment services for those with some history of psychiatric illness or treatment.

The Commission for Women site includes the Commission's career counseling and series of workshops.

- The Consumer Health Foundation, which directs its efforts to the area around Washington, has provided these links to obesity programs.
- The County Office of Consumer Protection offers advice.
- The Gilchrist Center for Cultural Diversity directs its programs to minority and immigrant populations.

- The Family Services Agency helps with Parenting Education, Child Development, School Readiness, Mental Health Services, Community Resources, and Leadership Training.
- Family NET Works is the online connection for Maryland families who have a family member with a disability. Their link lists financial resources. Check the site of the Social Security Administration also for information about Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
To receive information specifically for persons receiving disability benefits from Social Security who want to explore their options regarding employment, call Benefits InfoSource, (888)838-1776 or (301)587-4137.
- The Fannie Mae Foundation provides home buying guides that cover basics of getting a mortgage and establishing credit.
- The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) offers financial information for consumers, including tips on Certificates of Deposit (CDs) and looking for a mortgage. Money Smart is an online self-directed program on budgeting written at 6th grade level+. It’s in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese. - Freddie Mac sponsors the Women's Mortgage Industry Network (WMIN) which helps single moms overcome barriers to home ownership.
- This "portal" for government information and services will direct you to the right place if you know what you want but do not know what agency or level of government is in charge, whether federal, state, or local. Examples of links: reporting a change of address and training assistance.
- The County's Department of Health and Human Services provides a guide to community services (in pdf format).
- The Safety Net gives information on health and human services
- A HOME BUYING GUIDE is for participants who are thinking of buying their first home.

Home ownership programs at HOC (the Housing Opportunities Commission) include mortgages for home buying.
- The Jewish Social Service Agency provides a range of services, e.g., counseling, therapy, career services, hospice care, and care for developmental and physical disabilities.
- The Montgomery County Public Libraries provide books of course, but also other resources and programs. (This site includes the catalog plus links to county, regional, and national resources.)
- The Maryland Cooperative Extension (MCE) includes resources on Increasing Family Stability, Understanding Diet, Consumer Education, and Senior Health Insurance Counseling . . . among other topics. The local number is 301/590-9638. [Previously called the Cooperative Extension Service (CES).]
- The Mental Health Association, Montgomery County offers a range of programs.
Its services may prove helpful.
- The Working Mom's Refuge provides support with a special section for single moms, with advice on safe toys.
- Comprised of a variety of public and private community partners, the primary mission of MontgomeryWorks is to simplify access to workforce-related services.
- The State of Maryland provides help with home mortgages to qualifying families.
- The Family Works is the local (Gaithersburg) parent resource center (serving parents, schools, child care and communities).

The Montgomery County Council of Parent Teacher Associations (MCCPTA), along with speaking on behalf of children and youth, aims to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect children.
- Another "parent resource center" is on the site of Campaign for Our Children based in Baltimore.
- The Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County is a private, non-profit corporation established to
increase access to health care for low-income, uninsured County
residents, and to improve the health status of
Montgomery County’s medically underserved.
- The County Recreation Department schedules many activities.
- The site of I4C provides a source of assistance on test preparation
for college admission, namely for the ACT and the SAT.
- "Use It Again" is a pdf brochure from the County on donating and obtaining used items.
